Lughnasadh Blessing Poem
Today we step through the threshold
The time of green and growth has past
The crops have become ripe and gold
The time of death, come at last
The land will turn from warm to cold
The spell of darkness soon cast
The rye has turned a yellow hue
An hourglass empty, a debt is due
The waning sun god, sickle in hand
Spills his sacrifice upon the land
His blood to ensure a fertile return
Entering the underworld, reborn
For beating hearts the harvest arrives
Bring gifts of Lughnasadh-tides
Grains and blueberries, heather and pie
Abundance is upon us, prosperity thrives
Even in windy days and shadowed times
Hope lives in all things, even those that died
The leaves will turn brittle and brown
Their husk will litter the blessed ground
Sheaths of wheat are here to reap
Reflections will be swiftly steeped
In amber waters of mugwort and honey
Dreams of days once active and sunny
In waters washed in bread and tears
Revelations of momental, cyclical fears
But all in good time the wisdom will flow
Like a spring, in the sleeping earth below
For now we dance, sing and play
Through the last of summer's vibrant bouquet
Feeling the warm rays on our joyous faces
Present with family in our sacred spaces
Telling ancestral stories around the campfire
Enchanted til Luna calls our spirits to retire
Blessed be the times of the autumn god
May the goddess’s torch blaze beyond
Lighting our way through moon’s sacred song
Instinctive always as the tides push-pull along
Blessed be to abundance and prosperity long
And Blessed be upon Lughnasadh’s dawn!
Lughnasadh Loose Incense Recipe
This recipe is split into two sections; simple and advanced. The simple recipe is to be seen as a base blend that can be added too with ingredients seen in the advanced section. If you add everything together, then you have made the blend I most enjoy during this sabbat. I encourage you to add ingredients of your own you feel drawn to to help you connect to your magick more deeply. This incense can be made and burned as a loose incense or made into cones by adding a small part of water and shaping cones with the mixture, let sit for a few days to dry and enjoy.
Simple Lughnasadh Incense Recipe:
3p Rose Petals
1p Chamomile Flowers
1p Lavender Buds
1p Oatstraw
1p Frankincense Tears
Touch of Honey (Tea-Tablespoon)
Advanced Additions to Lughnasadh Incense Recipe:
1p Heather Flowers
1p Amber Resin
1p Cypress Leaves
3 Allspice Berries (¾ teaspoon allspice powder)
Crafting the Incense:
Gather your herbs (either the recipe suggested or herbs associated with the season).
Grind herbs with mortar and pestle ingredient by ingredient. Skip this step if you have pre-ground herbs.
Then add each ground ingredient into a bigger bowl/vessel.
Mix all ingredients together and add a teaspoon to tablespoon amount of crystalizing raw honey. If you don’t have crystalizing raw honey, regular honey works just fine.
Once everything is incorporated you can begin blessing/enchanting your incense, this can be through a formal prayer or blessing but also just from the heart.
Now prepare a charcoal disc in a heat safe vessel with about an inch of salt or sand at the bottom. Use vessels like a cast iron cauldron or a metal bowl.
Once the charcoal disk is lit and behind to glow red you are ready to add a small pinch of incense to your charcoal and begin enjoying the fruit of your labor! Blessed Lughnasadh!
